Short accounts of Florentine families, in alphabetical order, with 350 coats of arms neatly sketched in pen-and-ink, and a few others roughly outlined in pencil. The sketches of coats of arms only reach to the beginning of the letter D, with seven under V and Z; but the bearings are described under each name.
At the end follow these short articles, which are entered in the index in the preceding volume, MS. Rawl. D. 586:—
- (p. 673) 1. "Nota di consoli antichi" of Florence; a list of the names.
- (p. 676) 2. "Distinzione fra casati grandi e popolani".
- (p. 679) 3. "De contrasegni nelle armi de casati Fiorentini da chi stati concessi".
- (p. 681) 4. "De casati di Fiorenza sparsi in piu luoghi del mondo".
- (p. 687) 5. Alphabetical list of, as it appears, the priors of Florence, from 1532 to 1606.
At p. 683 are the following paragraphs as to the authorship and transcription of the MS.:—
"Qui fornice con l’ aviso del sommo excelso Dio la presente storia, in compendio composta e scritta da Piero di Gio. Monaldi, cittadino Fiorentino, trovandosi Potesta della terra di Bargo," etc.
"Et io Mattio Besoggio dal Este lo copivi del proprio originale che e nelle mani à mons. Lorenzo Corsini, e lo fini questo di 7 Marzo, 1686 al ind. cà Fiorenza, copiate per l’ ill[ustrissi]mo sign. cav. Zanobi Bettini, mio padrone."
