Custodial History
This volume was given to T. Hearne in 1720 by Charles Eyston, Esq., of East Hendred, Berks. Hearne inserts the following note: "Mr. Eyston hath got an exact transcript of the whole treatise, taken from a MS. of as good if not better authority than that in New College. After he had got that transcript he parted with these extracts to me, and told me that I should peruse the whole treatise when I pleased. Mr. Eyston, a gentleman of most eminent virtues, died on November 5, 1721, aet. 54."
Bibliography
- An abstract of the contents of the treatise, from the MS. at New College, Oxford, is given in the notes to the preface to Forrest’s History of Grisild the Second, edited by Rev. W. D. Macray for the Roxburghe Club, in 1875, and the whole work was printed for the Camden Society in 1878 from the East Hendred MS., under the editorship of Rev. N. Pocock. Hearne notices the book in his glossary to Langtoft’s Chronicle under the word saw, and the first draft by himself of his note thereon is inserted in this MS.
