"The case of giving bail to a pretended authority examined; with a letter to Sir John Holt, and a reply to some Remarks upon the case of giving bail;" by Jeremy Collier, bulk: 17th century
The "Case" is dated from the King's Bench, 23 Nov 1692, the "Letter" (fol. 9b) 30 Nov 1692, and the "Reply" (ib.) Apr 1693.
An account of the occasion of these papers is given at the end, where it is said that "by the care of some friends" the Letter "was stopped before it came to Sir John Holt's hands," and that of the whole piece only five copies were printed.
Bound up as fly-leaves at each end are nine leaves, containing titt. lxv—lxix, lib. ii. of a work printed (probably at Cologne) in the fifteenth century, in double columns. Tit. lxv. is, "De misericordia;" tit. lxix., "De perplexitatibus conscientiæ."
