Biographical / Historical
The Campaign Against Namibian Uranium Contracts (CANUC) campaigned against the import of Namibian uranium into the UK. It was established in 1976 by Alun Roberts and included members of the Namibia Support Committee (NSC), the Anti-Apartheid Movement, and the Haslemere Group (a Third World research/action group, which dissolved in 1978). British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL) and Rio Tinto Zinc (RTZ), in particular, were targeted and the group had close links with the anti-nuclear campaigns and with certain trade unions. CANUC published two books on the Namibian uranium issue: The Rössing File (1980) and Namibia: A Contract to Kill (1986).
