Malcolm's diary and photographs of his tour as Private Secretary to Sir Malcolm (later Lord) Hailey, in connection with An African Survey, published in 1938.
Diary: the first two files contain loose foolscap sheets; in folders 3-6, the diary is entered in carbon books, the top copies from which were sent home to his wife. They contain notes on all aspects of African development, in particular agriculture and education; records of conversations, interviews, and correspondence; descriptions of people and places; and day-to-day accounts of the tour.
