These were usually with a note to the effect that the Public Relations Officer (PRO) has passed them for local or overseas publication, or a request for permission to do so, and often with Izard's comments and amendments. There are two major categories of articles, the smaller appearing under the heading 'Notes from Native Areas', and the larger being the result of a discussion (MSS. Afr. s. 1257/1, folder 2, fols. 54-55) of methods for keeping the public informed about matters the Governor considered suitable for public issue. Many of the articles in this second group are marked 'Hargreaves', but this reference remains unidentified. Topics referred to in the articles include:
