Journal started by Jobson on 24 Jan 1901 (first page missing), describing Voyage on the SS Manhattan to South Africa, including stops at Gibraltar and St. Vincent, arriving in Table Bay on 21 Feb. Also describes these events:
- ordered to Vanrhynsdorp as Commandant; arrived there 3 Mar; describes life in the town and dominance of Piet Van Rhyn
- left Vanrhynsdorp on 9 Apr for Pretoria, where he arrived on 17 Apr
- left for Pietersburg, 16 May; thought Boers in northern districts were inclined to surrender
- arrived back in Pretoria on 25 May
- notes that the Boers believe they will be victorious. Many social events noted, 25 Jun
- ordered to Wonderboom to command the fort (page missing after 17 Aug), 8 Aug
- arrived at Quagga, 19 Aug
- moved from Quagga to East Fort. Criticises Roberts' and Kitchener's tactics, 17 Sep
- 1eft for Pietersburg, 13 Jan 1902, returned to Pretoria on 15 Feb
- sent to Klapperkop, then sent to Harrismith, 26 Feb as Registrar of Claims, 17 Feb
- left Harrismith, 16 Jul, for Durban and set sail for Southampton on the 'Aurania' on 28 Jul
- arrived in Southampton 28 Aug
- notes on artillery training courses attended in 1903 and 1904.
