Arrangement

Federal general elections are listed first (in date order), followed by by-elections; thereafter, territorial elections are listed in alphabetical order of territory. The 1961 Southern Rhodesian (Zimbabwean) referendum concludes the section. Further relevant material is to be found in the 'Speeches' section (433/1-453/1) and in the papers of the United Federal Party and the various other political parties (474/2 onward). For material relating to the 1953 Southern Rhodesian (Zimbabwean) referendum, see MSS. Welensky Papers 82/1-89/6. Various speeches, broadcasts, press statements, and interviews in connection with elections will be found at MSS. Welensky Papers 288/1-296/4. The 'Personal' correspondence at MSS. Welensky Papers 584/2-687/4 contains numerous references to elections of all types, and to the two referenda in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). For further material, see MSS. Welensky Papers 224/4-5, 246/5, 484/1, 492/5, 525/10, 550/14, and speeches, broadcasts, press statements, etc. as appropriate.
