Arrangement

Federal general elections are listed first (in date order), followed by by-elections; thereafter territorial elections are listed in alphabetical order of territory. The 1961 Southern Rhodesian (Zimbabwean) referendum concludes the section. Further relevant material is to be found in the 'Speeches' section (433/1-453/1) and in the papers of the United Federal Party and the various other political parties (474/2 onward). For material relating to the 1953 Southern Rhodesian (Zimbabwean) referendum, see MSS. Welensky Papers 82/1-89/6. Various speeches, broadcasts, press statements and interviews in connection with elections will be found at MSS. Welensky Papers 288/1-296/4. The 'Personal' correspondence at MSS. Welensky Papers 584/2-687/4 contains numerous references to elections of all types, and to the two referenda in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). For further material, see MSS. Welensky Papers 224/4-5, 246/5, 484/1, 492/5, 525/10, 550/14, and speeches, broadcasts, press statements, etc. as appropriate.
