The material in the following section indicates the nature and pace of life of a government minister (and the vast amount of organisation required to keep the show on the road), as well as throwing light on Rhodesian (Zambian and Zimbabwean) society and its activities in the 1950s and early 1960s. Invitations and tours provide anecdotal evidence of the rate of economic development in Central Africa in those years. Visitors and visits tie in with political, constitutional, and military/security affairs and developments. Social engagements tie in with party politics.

Includes visits to Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) until 1953 and to the Federation (Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi) thereafter.
