On several occasions, Welensky handled extra portfolios for ill or absent colleagues, thus causing files to be created within his private office. In most of the examples in the following section, the force behind the creation of files is either Welensky's personal interest in particular matters, his interest in respect of his constituents or constituency, or his official, extra-departmental interest as Federal Prime Minister (acting and substantive) or, from 1954 to 1956, as Leader of the House (Deputy Prime Minister). There is a continuation of either files, or subjects, or both from the Liaison Office material.
