These comprise committees of ministers, of officials, and of mixed membership, both Federal and inter-governmental. The material at MSS. Welensky Papers 155/1-3 and 158/4 originates in Welensky's own filing system (or is his own copy deriving from membership of a particular committee). The Economic and Development Committee was established in 1959, and the papers survive for that year alone, although the committee continued to meet thereafter. Other committees such as that for 'Special Propaganda' were established to address a specific problem and once their task was completed they were abolished. The various committees are listed in chronological order. The most important, the Cabinet Committee on Future Planning, comes last. Comprising Barrow, Caldicott, Clark, Duncan, and Greenfield, its task was to plan the dissolution of the Federation (Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi) and, in due course, to receive the reports of the committees of officials established at the Victoria Falls Conference of 1963.
