The bulk of this material comes from Liaison Office files classified as part of the Chief Secretary's division at C0524 (with numerous sub-references). The proceedings of the conference were, in part, filed there but were mainly treated as books to be shelved or briefing material to be set apart. For some conferences, more than one set of proceedings (of varying completeness) survived - perhaps a personal copy alongside a Liaison Office/Unofficial Members' Association one - and, in the absence of marginalia of any interest, the duplicates have been discarded.

The rest comes from 'Broken Hill' files P/C/F/49 and P/C 100/52 or has a precise provenance that is unknown. An overlap exists between the correspondence and correspondents in this section and that in the 'personal' series at MSS. Welensky Papers 584/2-686/11. Certain material relating to other Northern Rhodesian (Zambian) affairs and the constitutional advancement of that territory is included here, overlapping 218/1, etc. Further relevant material will be found in the two sections following the current one: the Central African Council, MSS. Welensky Papers 91/2-103/2; and the Federation papers of Sir Godfrey Huggins, MSS. Welensky Papers 103/3-7. Other references to the United Central Africa Association, created as a pro-federation campaigning group to function in the Rhodesias (Zambia and Zimbabwe) and the United Kingdom, will be found at MSS. Welensky Papers 478/1, 741/2, 747/6, and 773/4. The later activities of the Capricorn Africa Society will be found at MSS. Welensky Papers 226/1, 227/2, and 518/4-9.

Certain files referred to by Dr J.R.T. Wood in The Welensky Papers, which might have been included in this section, have not survived: 'England, 1948' [Unnumbered Series V-W], 'U.K. Trip, Apr-May 1950', and 'U.K. Correspondence, Apr 1951' [Unnumbered Series].
