Liaison Office Files, 'E' and 'D' Divisions (Economic Affairs and Development): Land; correspondence with the Director of Surveys and Lands and others regarding land settlement and land use, the alienation of crown lands, agricultural loans, the financial difficulties of farmers and their debts to the Land Board, Jul 1951-Dec 1953
The filing system was arranged by the department (or official) of the Northern Rhodesian (Zambian) Government to which the matters covered in a given file related. Excepting that sections 'D' (Development Secretary and predecessors) and 'E' (Economic Secretary) have been combined, this arrangement is generally maintained in this section of the catalogue. Occasional unclassified files, some of which pre-date the Liaison Office, have been incorporated into the relevant divisions of this section. Liaison files relating to the Unofficials' Association will be found in that section; those relating to closer association (C0524, etc.) will be found between MSS. Welensky Papers 64/7-91/1. Others removed to Salisbury (Harare) will be found in their later Federal guise - see, in particular, MSS. Welensky Papers 343/1-360/2. Extracts from Executive Council minutes relating to particular topics and decisions reached are to be found throughout these files and have not been noted separately.
For the copper industry, see MSS. Welensky Papers 341/9-342/8.
