- to Monsieur L. Arman, Corps Législatif, Bordeaux, introducing John Brooke Brooke
- (2 and 3) to John Brooke Brooke, about the departure of the Charles Grants from Sarawak; hopes of Colonel Cavenagh writing 'a fair report' on Sarawak affairs which might help Lord Elgin 'in obtaining the protectorate'; and talk of a joint British and Dutch operation against the Lanuns, and Read's suggestion that John Brooke Brooke should join in this.
