  4. (fols. 391-394) part of a letter from John Grant 'not sent to The Times', under the heading 'Sir James Brooke', about the need for capital to develop Sarawak, with a note added in 1874 by Charles Grant, May 1858
  5. (fols. 395-396) testimonial for his son Charles about his unjust treatment by Sir James Brooke, and his subsequent career as Secretary to a Banking Company [Land Mortgage Bank of India] and later as a stockbroker, 15 Aug 1870.
