(fols. 200-201) letter from Sarawak about John Brooke Brooke's welcome return; his own life aboard the Jolly Bachelor, preparing a new vessel; the Rajah's changed character; the departure of Alderson; the stronger situation in Sarawak; and John Brooke Brooke's proposed marriage [to Julia Welstead] and the progress of his sons, 25 May 1860
  2. (fols. 202-206) letter from Sakarang, describing the Kayan expedition; his brother Stuart's illness with a swollen foot; and assurances to his parents concerning the situation between John Brooke Brooke and himself, and his own view that both the Rajah and John Brooke Brooke had been at fault, 26 Jun 1863
  3. (fols. 207-209) letter from Lingga to his mother, begging her to have confidence in her sons; his own shock at the letters of challenge written by John Brooke Brooke to the Rajah; the dangerous course chosen by John Brooke Brooke in making matters public and proposing legal action; his distress at his mother's anxiety; and the Rajah's probable return to England in Oct, 11 Jul 1863.
