Mrs Hussey was the Executor to Sir Charles Vyner Brooke and formerly his Secretary in London.

Folder A, 19 Jun 1944-27 May 1959:

(fols. 1-260) 'Rajah's Dependants' Order': correspondence and memoranda filed in reverse chronological order. Names of annuitants and payments in 1946 are listed (fol. 254), and of pensioners from Astana (fol. 251).

  1. correspondence is for the most part between the Rajah and his solicitors, Messrs Edwin Coe & Calder Woods; the Colonial Office (Secretaries of State James Griffiths, Oliver Lyttelton, and Alan Lennox-Boyd); and the Board of Inland Revenue, chiefly about tax payable by annuitants in respect of allowances made under the Order, and about commutation of payments. Included are copies of the Rajah's Dependants (Repeal) Ordinance 1952 (fols. 116-122) and of a memorandum [by Messrs Edwin Coe?] summarising negotiations with the Colonial Office 1946-1957 (fols. 5-36)
  2. Counsel's Opinion, and a letter dated 27 May 1959 from the Rajah to Sir Charles Jeffries (fols. 1-4), relate to the Rajah of Sarawak Fund.

Folder B, 5 and 6 Jan 1946:

(fols. 1-15) 'Cession': original documents of the Rajah-in-Council and the Council Negri, many with Malay versions and translations, as well as a letter from the Chinese communities to the Rajah:

  1. (fol. 1) Rajah-in-Council: appointment of G.T.M. MacBryan as Chief Secretary, from 5-8 Jan 1946, for the purpose of convening a meeting of the Council Negri, ratified by the Rajah, C.V. Brooke, n.d.
  2. (fols. 2-3) Council Negri: Order No. R-16 (Rajah's Indemnification) 1946, 5 Jan 1946
  3. (fols. 4-5) letter to the Rajah from the Representatives of the Chinese communities of the State of Sarawak, with English translation, affirming support for the Rajah's proposal to conclude a new agreement with the British Government, 5 Jan 1946
  4. (fols. 6-8) Council Negri: Agreement to the proposal to form the Sarawak State Trust Fund of £1,000,000, with Malay version and translation, 5 Jan 1946
  5. (fols. 9-14) Rajah-in-Council: Restoration to the Rajah of the prerogatives surrendered to the Rajah-in-Council under Order No. C-21 (Constitution) 1941, as from 1 Jan 1946, with Malay translation and two photostat copies, 5 Jan 1946
  6. (fol. 15) Council Negri: Order No. C-22 (Constitution Repeal) 1946, 6 Jan 1946.
