Richard Normington was appointed Head of International Office and Head of the Overseas and Defence Section of CRD in August 1994, having previously worked as a CRD desk officer. In 1999, when the IDU's secretariat moved out of Conservative Central Office, Normington stepped down as Head of the International Office and continued in his role as Secretary General of the IDU until 2005.
