Folder 1: Diaries and notebooks, comprising:

  1. Three small childhood notebooks, 1876, 1879, 1881
  2. Five small childhood diaries, 1880-1882, including a holiday in Switzerland, 1881, and 'A Garden Journal', 1882

Folder 2: Letters to Margaret Newbolt (née Duckworth). Items 10-22 are in a paper wrapper annotated by Celia Furse, however not all the items listed are present in the archive:

  1. The State and the Arts, the Romanes Lecture delivered by Lord (Edward) Bridges, 3 Jun 1958, with a covering letter from Bridges to Margaret Newbolt and a further letter from Ralph Furse to Margaret about the lecture
  2. Eight letters from her brother, Arthur Campbell Duckworth, from Switzerland, 1888
  3. Letter from her sister, Helen Holland, on her Catholicism and daughter Verena Holland, 1923
  4. 15 letters from Hugh E. Lister (and Mary and Sibyl Lister), 1930s-1940s. Includes a letter dated Apr 1938 reminiscing about meeting Margaret and Henry Newbolt (when he was a boy at Netherhampton)
  5. Letter from her son, Francis Newbolt, 1957
  6. Three letters from her granddaughter, Theresa Furse (later Whistler), 1937/8, 1940, 1943

  1. Spiral bound notebook containing prose anthology/quotations, with Celia Furse's label on front, [1940s-1950s]
  2. Spiral bound exercise book containing Margaret's late life pencil conversations, 'M E Newbolt conversations Halsdon 1949-1950 and 1951'. An accompanying note says Margaret was very deaf so people wrote replies to her questions and afterwards she copied out the ones she wanted to keep, hence the notebook
  3. Anthology of letters and quotes, including quotes from family letters, [1940s-1950s]
  4. Memo book, 'Extracts from family letters', [1929-1954]
  5. 'Classica Memo Tablet' marked 'Halsdon 1949-50 J.H.M.F. and Ralph' (many pages removed)
  6. Linen-covered notebook containing a reading list, [1935]

Folder 5: Leather wallet believed to belong to Margaret Newbolt as it contains items relating to her, comprising:

  1. Letter from 'Mama' (Edina Duckworth) to Evie Duckworth, Apr 1873
  2. Letter to Margaret from 'Sorella' (believed to be Helen or another of her sisters), written on the evening of Margaret's marriage to Henry Newbolt, 1889
  3. Poem by Helen [Holland?] written after taking Celia Newbolt into the meadow grass, 1891
  4. Poem by 'MEC' for Margaret, 'A mother to a baby', 1894
  5. Prose written on scraps of paper and a photograph of Evelyn's grave in Orchardleigh churchyard (found in the envelope with the letter from 'Sorrella'), n.d.
