Biographical / Historical

From October 1908, Celia spent two terms living in Cambridge with the Horace Darwin family, with a further visit in 1910, studying science and botany as an extra-mural student. Nora Darwin, 4 ½ years older than her, was already studying botany – possibly also without affiliation to a college – and attending William Bateson's class on heredity (that is genetics, a term Bateson coined); Nora was also a member of the Marshall Ward Society, and a friend of Edith R. Saunders, head of the Balfour Biological Laboratory for Women.
