Largely material relating to the First World War, amongst which are various items relating to the Sydes brothers, one of whom was killed at the Somme. The album seems to have been compiled by Blanche Holt, a sister of Reverend John Clough. There are also references to their Barry connexions.

Contents includes:

  1. information about the two Sydes boys, listed under "S"
  2. cuttings about a Canadian victory on the Somme, and the death of H. T. Sydes, 1916, p. 37
  3. commemoration scroll for Lieutenant William Sydes, with a note from Buckingham Palace sending the memorial, with a printed signature of George V, p. 41
  4. notifications of Barry and Holt deaths, pp. 5, 16, 17
  5. postcards pp. 24-25, 38-39

Also includes letters to Blanche Holt from:

  1. Vesey Holt, 3 August 1916, referring to a wedding and thanking her for sending a genealogy (attached, p. 17)
  2. Jimmy, at No 14 General Hospital, France, giving an account of his experiences
  3. Johnny, 21 January 1917, convalescing at Portland Place

Further includes letters to Mrs. Freeth, mother to the Sydes brothers, from

  1. Brigadier General W. S. Pierre Hughes, 30 September 1916, passing on sympathies for the death of her son, and noting that his son was also serving at the Somme
  2. Major-General Hughes of the Minister's Office, Canada, 22 September 1916, also passing on sympathies.
