Comprises letters to Elspeth Huxley from her mother, Nellie Grant, with a few from her father, Major Josceline Grant, most written from Gikammeh Farm, Njoro, Kenya:
- (file 1) - 29 Jun-29 Dec 1933 (19 letters, 51 fols). The series begins when Elspeth and Gervas Huxley left Kenya for London. Elspeth Huxley had been in Kenya since February collecting material for her biography of Lord Delamere.
- (file 2) - 27 Jan-26 Dec 1934 (31 letters, 98 fols). There are no letters before 27 Jan and between 20 Feb and 19 Jun when Elspeth Huxley was travelling.
- (file 3) - 5 Jan-24 Dec 1935 (22 letters, 87 fols). There are no letters between 29 May and 12 Sep when Nellie Grant was in England.
- (file 4) - 1 Jan-11 Nov 1936 (24 letters, 52 fols). Elspeth and Gervas Huxley were travelling around the world in Jan and Feb; letters were sent to several destinations and some appear to have been lost. There are no letters between 18 Feb and 18 May when Elspeth Huxley was in Kenya.
- (file 5) - 25 Oct-28 Dec 1937 (9 letters, 26 fols). Elspeth Huxley spent the first part of 1937 in Kenya, collecting material for Red Strangers and Nellie Grant accompanied her back to England, remaining until October.
- (file 6) - 2 Jan-2 Dec 1938 (31 letters, 81 fols). There are no letters from 20 Jul to 9 Nov when Elspeth Huxley was in Kenya.
