Biographical / Historical
In 1927 the Ceylon Government asked the Colonial Office to arrange for six Ceylonese women to receive nursing training in England. Thirty seven hospitals were approached (fols. 16-17) with three agreeing to take two each; these were Guy's Hospital, the General Hospital in Birmingham and the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. At the request of the Colonial Office, the Overseas Nursing Association agreed to undertake responsibility for the nurses – their reception on arrival and supervision during training.
