Biographical / Historical
Sir Anthony Royle, Baron Fanshawe of Richmond, was appointed Chairman of the International Office in 1979 when Baroness Diana Elles resigned in order to stand in the first direct elections to the European Parliament. Sir Anthony had previously served as a junior minister for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and a Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee.
In addition to being Party Vice-Chairman for international affairs, Sir Anthony was also appointed Vice-Chairman for candidates. He served as Chairman of the International Office until 1983.
