Biographical / Historical
The Conservatives in the European Parliament maintained whipping arrangements similar to those at Westminster, headed by a Chief Whip appointed by the Delegation Leader. The Whips were responsible for maintaining the cohesion of the Delegation during votes of the European Parliament by circulating voting instructions (also known as whips), as well as handling disciplinary issues and assisting the leadership with the management of Delegation business.
As allied members of the Group of the European People's Party (EPP), and the Group of the European People's Party and European Democrats (EPP-ED), the Conservatives in the European Parliament issued separate whips from those issued by the Group as a whole.
