'A-hostelling we wil go.' Diary entries for three cycling holidays, staying in youth hostels, illustrated with pen-and-ink sketches:

  1. (fols. 2-17) 'To the Wye with Roger', cycling holiday with her son, Roger, with detailed accounts, Apr 1948. They rode from Oxford to Ashton Keynes, Malmesbury, Hawkesbury, Chepstow, Tintern, Bignor, Mitcheldean, Chepstow Castle, Tiltups End, Malmesbury, Highworth, Inglesham, Charney Bassett, Abingdon and back to Oxford.
  2. (fols. 18-32r) 'With son and cycle to Somerset', Sep [1948]. Cycling holiday with her son, Roger, from Oxford to Cerney Wick, Ashton Keynes, Chippenham, Croscombe, Street, Glastonbury, Wells, Wookey Hole, Biddisham, Burrington, West Harptree, Batheaston, Bath, Marlborough, Newburt, Pangbourne, Streatley, Dorchester and back to Oxford.
  3. (fols. 32v-43r) 'Lone traveller to Kent', Sep-Oct 1948. Mabel cycled from Oxford to Tenterden in Kent via Nettlebed, Henley, Esher, Dedhill, Chaldon, Kemsing, Biddenden. She spent ten days with her friends in Tenterden, exploring and sketching Kent. She cycled back to Oxford via South Mimms, Ivinghoe and Dinton.
