To Compton from Archbp. Paterson, in reply to the charges made by Bp. Rose; Edinb., 26 Jan 1703

MS. Rawl. C. 985, fol. 49

  • Request

Archbp. Ross and Bp. Rose knew of the proposed address to the Queen, and refused to join in it, saying that they would rather beg their bread than own allegiance to her; they have written with the same complaints to Bp. Burnet, "a person whom they mortallie hate as he deserves," for which their motive can only be "that they consider him as a desperatt wicked enemie to me."
