Copies and notes from the Plea Rolls, Fines, and other records in the Treasury at Westminster, of documents relating to the county of Pembroke in the reigns of Edw. I. and Edw. II., 17th century
Prefixed are:
- Table of contents.
- A pen-and-ink drawing, very neatly executed, showing three windows of the Treasury, with coats of arms therein, headed, "The forme of the place wherein the Recordes are keapte in Westm. Abbey, called nowe the Threasurye," and with this description sub, joined: "Yt is a round place like the Temple Church, with 6 or 7 longe windowes of greate height, 8 square within, and vauted over, and a piller of stone in the middest."
- An account of the transcripts, as follows: "Memorandum that at my beinge in London in annis 1606, 1607, 1608, 1609 and 1610, I often resorted to Mr. Arthur Agarde, cheefe clearke that keepeth the Recordes in the Treasurie in Westminster neere the Abbey Church there, where I founde many auncient recordes, diverse whereof I tooke copies under teste of his hand as may appere, and of diverse others I did onelie reede and peruse them over, and tooke but briefe notes of the substance of them. Also the said Mr. Agarde hath latelie takenn greate paynes in abridging the substance of many of the said recordes in his custodie, and ingrossed the same in bookes of velym, reduceinge the same into sheires, yeeres and termes, a method verie easie and redy for any mann to find the recorde, and his booke without searching the recorde will shewe the substance of the whole recorde, which much easeth the searche. All such copies as I tooke from the said Mr. Agarde, as also such notes as I tooke out of his booke of abridged recordes, as also all abreviations of myne owne draweinge out of any recordes which I perused with him, are writtenn in this booke, and over those notes which I abridged myself is written Abreviations."
