The first coat is that of Philippe de la Chambre, "à present cardinal de Bologne," who died in 1550.

The following heading is attached to the Introduction: "Icy est la descendance de la maison de Bologne dont est yssue madame Anne de Bologne, duchesse d'Albanye, et contesse de la Chambre."

On a fly-leaf at the end is the following note of Dr. Rawlinson's: "Here are seventeen leaves of coats of armour. R. R. See Baluzius of the family of Auvergne, says Mr. Anstis." In the book thus referred to, many of the coats are described and engraved.
