The sketchbook contains a number of pencil drawings, including a drawing of Horatia's sister, Lady Caroline Edgcumbe, and a drawing of a the The Ionic Temple in Chiswick. Also contained are several botanical watercolours of plant specimens collected by Horatia in European cities including Berne, Morat, Rome, Varese, Nice, and Genoa. Notably, one of the watercolours is labelled "gathered from an olive tree in Lord Byron's garden at Genoa 19 November 1823". Some of the pages are undated.

Biographical / Historical
Henrietta Horatia Maria Gaisford, née Feilding (1810-1851), was Henry Fox Talbot's half-sister. She married Thomas Gaisford (1816-1898) in 1850.
