Item 2: c. 100 letters, mainly from Turkey, discussing negotiations over Crete and Thessaly, Armenian and Greek Orthodox religious politics, Montenegrin crisis, Anti-Anarchist Conference in Rome, personal contacts with ministers and conversation with Sultan, charg├Ęship while awaiting O'Conor, cruise in Gulf of Marmora, visit to Ephesus, Phrygian antiquities, visit to Sinaia to see Queen of Romania and Prince and Princess of Saxe-Meiningen and life in Constantinople, including Ramazan ceremonies, 10 Jan 1898-21 Dec 1898.
