Item 2: c. 100 letters, mainly from Turkey, discussing negotiations over Crete and Thessaly, Armenian and Greek Orthodox religious politics, Montenegrin crisis, Anti-Anarchist Conference in Rome, personal contacts with ministers and conversation with Sultan, chargèship while awaiting O'Conor, cruise in Gulf of Marmora, visit to Ephesus, Phrygian antiquities, visit to Sinaia to see Queen of Romania and Prince and Princess of Saxe-Meiningen and life in Constantinople, including Ramazan ceremonies, 10 Jan 1898-21 Dec 1898.
