Biographical / Historical

[Lord Carrington set up the Party Review Committee in June 1972 to, 'look at longer term matters affecting the Party organisation such as agents, publicity etc. I proposed therefore that a small committee consisting of the Deputy Chairmen, the Vice-Chairmen, the Senior Treasurer, Sir Richard Webster and myself should be established to go into these sort of matters thoroughly….The Committee will be called "The Party Review Committee"… I intend calling into subsequent meetings departmental heads and other Party executives whenever necessary.'

During its existence, the Committee examined the organisation and effectiveness of the CPC, the Conservative Overseas Bureau and Conservative Research Department with regard to the UK's imminent entry into the EEC, the Publicity Department (specifically the appointment of Regional Publicity Liaison Officers), the central employment of Agents, the Party's organisation in critical/marginal seats, and the Youth Department.]
