The Westminster Foundation for Democracy is a non-partisan organisation which was established by Royal Prerogative in March 1992. It works with the British government and major political parties to undertake development projects worldwide 'to provide assistance in building and strengthening pluralist democratic institutions overseas'. During the 1990s, it helped fund the Conservative Party's work in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and South Africa.
