The papers comprise:
(fols. 1-78) Letters to Barker, 1621/1622-1632, and to his widow, 1632-1635, mainly concerning their Sussex affairs. The letters include:
- (fols. 34, 38, 52, 58, 66, 70) 6 from John Swayne, Deputy Chapter Clerk of Chichester and collector of the Barkers' Sussex rents, 1631-1635, with (fols. 67, 72v) drafts of 2 replies from Mary Barker to Swayne and (fol. 68) a note from her to Swayne with a receipt for money paid by Swayne as directed by her, 1633/1634
- (fols. 10, 15) 4 letters from Richard Collins concerning debts originally owed to Barker by his parents, Thomas and Christian Collins of Chichester, 1627/1628, with (fols. 21, 30, 36) 4 letters from Alan Cooke of Dublin relating in part to Collins, 1629-1631/1632
- (fol. 6) a letter from Elias Brantingham of Norwich concerning money he owed to Barker with Barker's draft reply, 25 January, 12 February 1626/1627
- (fol. 14) a letter concerning Barker's tenants in Swineshead (Huntingdonshire), 1627/1628
- A few letters relate to ecclesiastical cases heard by Barker in Oxford or London, including (fol. 48) 1 from John Selden concerning a suit referred to Barker by the Court of High Commission, 13 June 1632, and (fol. 50) 1 from William Piers, Bishop of Peterborough, concerning his suit in the Court of Arches, 18 June 1632
(fols. 79-94) acquittances, most of them given to Hugh or Mary Barker, 1596-1646/1647. Including:
- (fol. 81) a receipt to Fulk Barker for a quit rent of The Queen's Arms, Newgate, London, 1622
- (fol. 84) a receipt from Sir John Wray to Hugh Barker for £74 6s. 8d. collected in Oxford University for the relief of the poor of Lincoln during a plague, 1632
- (fols. 86, 89) receipts for rents to Mary Barker from the Receiver of the Court of Wards, 1633-1635
(fols. 95-102) miscellanea, comprising:
- (fol. 95) a 17th century copy of the Bishop of Lincoln's sentence settling disputes about Piddington chapel, 1428, with an English abstract of the sentence
- (fol. 98) memoranda on Barker's Fritwell property, n.d.
- (fol. 99) a copy of a recognizance from Thomas Lyne of Canterbury to Mary Barker, 1635, endorsed '…for Colatterall Securytie for the lease of Chislett [Kent]' with a receipt to Lyne for rent paid to the Archibishop of Canterbury, 1635
- (fol. 101) an 18th century certified copy of entries in the Ombersley (Worcestershire) parish registers of the baptisms of two children of Martin and Elizabeth Sandys, 1708, 1712
