Photograph of The 'Great' St. Alban's comet of 1869 [Thomas Chamberlain, Vicar of St. Thomas and Richard Meux Benson, Vicar of Cowley St. John, in roundels, with others gazing skywards to the head of Alexander Heriot Mackonochie of Wadham College and Perpetual Curate of St. Alban the Martyr, Holborn, in a roundel, given the name of the 'St. Alban's Martyr' following his prosecution (1867) and banning from preaching (1869) on account of his ritualistic practices, with a smaller roundel of Samuel Wilberforce, Bishop of Oxford. cf. discovery of a comet by M.
