The earlier correspondence (1937-1938) relates to a conference organised by Timoféeff and Ephrussi under the auspices of the Rockefeller Foundation and limited to twelve participants from several disciplines. The meeting, referred to in the correspondence as the 'Band of Hope and Glory', took place at Klampenborg in April 1938 and was considered significant for the diffusion of chromosome theory.
