Narrative of adventures amongst the North American Indians, chiefly amongst the Iroquois, 1668
File
MS. Rawl. A. 329
Held at the Weston Library
Written in very imperfect English, by a French settler in Canada who was taken prisoner by the latter tribe, lived for some time as an adopted son in one of their families, and was engaged subsequently to his escape in travelling with Jesuit missionaries and in beaver hunting; 1652–c. 1665.
The following title is prefixed: "The relation of my voyage, being in bondage in the lands of the Irokoits, which was the next yeare after my coming into Canada in the yeare one thousand six hundred fiftie one, the 24th day of May."
It appears from the conclusion of the book that it was written in England in 1668, where the writer seems to have arrived in the autumn of 1665, to offer his service to the King.
A long list of Indian tribes visited by him is added on the last page.
