Numbers 43-50, written at Jemaa and while on trek. In March Mathews sailed for England on leave, during which he took a course in Cultural Anthropology at Oxford University. He returned to Nigeria in September and travelled by river as before, to Keffi. In numbers 43 and 50 he wrote of the proposed amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria. There is mention, in this file and later, of the following officers serving in Northern Nigeria:
