Pyatigorsk and Taman. Two one-act operas based on Lermontov's novel 'A hero of our time'. Pyatigorsk composed 1973 to a libretto by the composer; Taman composed 1968 to a libretto by Annabel Farjeon. 'Though each is complete in itself, they are designed to be performed together as the first and second parts of an opera in two acts' (composer's note on typescript libretto).
