a (fols. 1-2v) A song for Christmas. W.7, [1938]. Words by Robert Herrick. Ink fair copy score, dated at end 'Amersham, April 1938' (corrected from 1939, which date, however, appears in pencil on fol. 1);

b (fols. 3v-4) Under the greenwood tree. W.38/4, [op. 6 no. 4, 1947]. Words by William Shakespeare. Ink fair copy score, dated at end '30.X.47'. Published in 1948 as the last of Four Shakespeare songs, second set;

c (fols. 5-11) Bonnie Lesley. W.44b, [c 1948]. Words by Robert Burns. Originally composed as the first of Two Scottish songs (with Willie drowned in Yarrow). Complete ink fair copy score (fol. 5v-7), 2 incomplete ink drafts and pencil sketches;

d (fols. 12v-15) Willie drowned in Yarrow. W.44a, [op. 14 no. 2, 1948]. Words: anon. Originally composed as the second of Two Scottish songs (with Bonnie Lesley). Photostat of ink fair copy, dated at end 'Brixham, 12.10.48'. Published in 1952;

e (fols. 16-17v) Go, lovely rose. W.48, [op. 16 no.3, c 1949]. Words by Edmund Waller. For two voices and piano. Ink fair copy, with red ink annotations and engraver's markings in pencil. Published in 1951;

f (fols. 18-21) Now let's talk about love. Cabaret song, dating from Montgomery's Shrewsbury/Wellington schooldays, with words by Philip Larkin (unattributed here). It was used in the film Doctor in the house (W.64) in an instrumental version. Ink fair copy score, c 1954;

g (fols. 22-26) Why should the swallow return? W.66, [c 1954]. Cabaret song. Complete ink fair copy score (fols. 22-24v), and an incomplete one, crossed out in pencil;

h (fols. 27-34v) 'Perfidia'. W.65b, [Apr-May 1954]. Background music for revue sketch for Joyce Grenfell requests the pleasure. Rewrite of Cash on delivery. Ink fair copy of piano score (with red ink annotations), including dialogue cues, and some indication of orchestration (fols. 27-30), with a second copy in another hand;

i (fols. 35-41) Cash on delivery. W.65a, [1954]. Background music for revue sketch. Ink fair copy of piano score (with red ink annotations), including dialogue cues and indications of orchestration.
