Miscellaneous outsize items from the correspondence and papers, 1852-62, mainly newspapers and other printed items (listed on fol. i), including:

  1. (fols. 3-10) newspapers removed from MS. Crampton 33
  2. (fols. 11-36) newspapers and cuttings concerning the recruitment question, 1855-6, including (fols. 13-14) two copies of a recruiting poster, Halifax, Nova Scotia, 1855
  3. (fols. 43-4) two documents on parchment, a signed testimonial in English, with a Spanish translation, addressed to Manuel Matamoros (1834-66) enclosed with a letter from Sir Robert Peel, 20 July 1861 (38222/1, fols. 169-70), the envelope found unopened and the wax seal intact
  4. (fol. 45) sketch map of troop positions on the north side of Gibraltar, n.d.
  5. (fols. 46-8) newspaper cuttings concerning the slave trade, 1861, removed from MS. Crampton 70, fols. 28-34
  6. (fol. 49) 'Johnston's new map of the country between Sevastopol and Balaklava showing the position of the allied army' 1854.
