Letters addressed to Mark Pattison, and selected by him as of special interest. Amongst the letter-writers are John Henry Newman (six letters, fols. 12, 36) and Edw. Bouverie Pusey (fols. 4, 6). The volume also contains:

  1. A list of papers read at the Oxford Philological Society, 1870-1 (fol. 34)
  2. An autograph poem by J. H. Newman, 'The Changed Mother' (i.e. Oxford), beg. 'So Oxford, once thy dear old towers' (fol. 42)
  3. An 18th cent. 'Catalogue of the several pieces of plate belonging to Jesus College, with the names of the respective donors', 1650-1736
