'The Life, deedes and death of Sir John Perrott, knight', Written in the early 17th century
'The Life, deedes and death of Sir John Perrott, knight', preceded by dedicatory epistle, beg. 'Plutarch that excellent philosopher and famous historian' (fol. iv). Text beg. 'It is the wont of all good writers' (fol. 2).
This was printed in 1727 from 'the original manuscript ... communicated from Ireland, and thither it is again safely transmitted', and in consequence of an acknowledgement by the editor of indebtedness to Richard Rawlinson [1690-1755] the work has absurdly been ascribed to him (D.N.B., s.v. Perrot, Rawlinson). The note on fol. ii that 'by him it was presented to the Bodleian' is likewise impossible, because, as the work is listed in the Old Catalogue, it must have been written before 1697.
