'Cantata in Sto. Appolinare in Roma', 17th-18th cent.
i + 147 leaves.
A set of Lamentations for Holy Week in 6 parts: 9 Lectiones, for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, scored for solo voices (soprano and alto) accompanied by two treble instruments and continuo. Score. Probably copied for the use of the church of Sant' Apollinare in Rome. In an early 18th-century (possibly Italian) hand.
An account of the cost of the copy, in an English hand, 18th cent., is on fol. 146v. The authorship suggested in T. W. Bourne's note on fol. i verso ('This work is probably by Carissimi'), has not yet been confirmed.
