A French Life of st. Eloy (Eligius), in rhyming verse, written in A.D. 1294 by G. de Monsteruel
The first part is wanting, and the text beg. 'Non fesist il dusca calais | Ne de caíais dusca biaucaire': ends 'Diex les consaut quant il mourront': at end, 'Chi furent tout li glorieus miracle . que mesires sains Eloys li beneois euesques de Noion fist en sa tres sainte vie ... et si mescrist . Gerars de Monsteruel . en lan de l' incarnation ... Mil. ijc iiijxx . &, xiiij le diemenche apres le saint Nicholais le benoit ...'.
A leaf is lost after fol. 9, and fol. 147 is damaged.
This Life appears to be based on the prose one by st. Ouen (fol. 4: 'Sains Oains ki fist chest istoire'). This MS. has been edited by m. Peigné Delacourt in 1859.
On fol. 118v (16th cent.) 'Ce present liure appartient a labbaye de Sainct Eloy de Noyon ...': on fol. 171v 'Ce present liure a esté perduz en lan mil vc iiijxx et vnze, lorsque labbaye ... fut prise et pillee ...', with an erasure on which is written part of the following note:'A lan mil six cent et cinq au mois de Frebuier il a esté recognuz a Paris, et rachete par daomp Robert le Roy moiennant vng escus de lxiiij solx vj d [?] a vng nomme Pierre Fleury marchant demeurant deuant les hasles a Paris a lenseigne des Trois Jambes'.
