'Remarks on severall parts of Flanders: Brabant: France: and Ittally . in the yeare 1717', written in or soon after 1717
Beg. 'I sett out from London in the stage Coach.'.
There is no direct clue to the writer, who was evidently a person of rank and distinction: his companion from Paris was a mr. Thomas Dixon, who died at Turin.
There is an armorial bookplate of 'The Right Honble George Lord Carpenter', and the writer may have been the second Lord Carpenter, who died in 1749.
