Collections made by James Bowen, a painter and undertaker of Shrewsbury (d. 1774: his printed trade-card is in Gough Shropshire 2, p. 744; 18, p. 41) and his son John, for a history of Shropshire and especially Shrewsbury: 'Fragments' relating to the county, like MS. Gough Shropshire 4, but less extensive.
Among the original documents are:
- A 'valuation of Carnstrey & Abdon by Jo: Browne, 18 Nov. 1642' (fol. 49)
- A resignation by Will. Southall of the parsonage of Abdon, with seal, 9 Oct. 1647 (fol. 55, cf. 71)
- A terrier of the lands belonging to Whittington church and other documents relating to it, 1630-54 (fol. 56)
