Collections made by James Bowen, a painter and undertaker of Shrewsbury (d. 1774: his printed trade-card is in Gough Shropshire 2, p. 744; 18, p. 41) and his son John, for a history of Shropshire and especially Shrewsbury:

  1. Fols. 1, 188. Copies of charters and documents relating to Shrewsbury (one charter of 11 Nov. 1189 in facsimile), including lists of tolls, compositions, exchequer orders, rentals, etc.)
  2. Fol. 152. 'Extracts of a Book of Entries of the Corporation of Shrewsbury marked C., taken ... A.D. 1747 ...'
  3. Fol. 234. Copies of two royal charters to Wenlock, 29 Nov. 1467 and 13 Dec. 1631, in Latin
  4. Fol. 260. Copy of a royal charter to Ludlow, 7 Dec. 1461, in Latin: with a list of bailiffs, 1461-1758
  5. Fol. 286. 'Grants to the abbey of Haghmond [Haughmond] copied out of the Register book of the said abbey.'
