Biographical / Historical
The Ministry of Fuel and Power was formed in 1942, taking over responsibility for coal production, allocation of fuel supplies, control of energy prices, petrol rationing, and electricity. From January 1957 it was known as the Ministry of Power, and became part of the Ministry of Technology from October 1969 and the Department of Trade and Industry from October 1970. In January 1974, responsibility for energy production was transferred to the new Department of Energy. This Department was merged back into the Department of Trade and Industry in 1992.
